Source: Jīn Guì Yào Lüè 金匮要略

Ingredients:

• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 12g
• Gān jiāng (干姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma, dried ginger) 10g

Action: Warms the center and boosts qì; restores yáng and stems reversal.

Indication: Cold legs, dry throat, vexation and agitation, vomiting and retching; pulmonary wilting, bronchial asthma, and enuresis.

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: Gān cǎo is a sweet and balanced agent that supplements center qì. Gān jiāng is a warm and acrid agent that warms the center and disperses cold. The two agents form a sweet, acrid, effusing combination that invigorates spleen yáng and dispels cold.
