Chinese Angelica and Carthamus Beverage
当归红花饮 〔當歸紅花飲〕 dāng guī hóng huā yǐn

Ingredients
- Zǐ cǎo (紫草 Arnebiae/Lithospermi Radix, arnebia/lithospermum)
- Dà qīng yè (大青叶 Isatidis Folium, isatis leaf)
- Lián qiào (连翘 Forsythiae Fructus, forsythia [fruit])
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica)
- Niú bàng zǐ (牛蒡子 Arctii Fructus, arctium [seed]).
Actions: Cools and quickens the blood and outthrusts papules.
Indications: Dull colored papules or macules due to depressed heat and blood stasis in febrile disease; measles papules that disappear just after they appear.
Rationale: Zǐ cǎo cools the blood and quickens the blood. Niú bàng zǐ courses wind and disperses heat. Both agents are effective in outthrusting papules. Dà qīng yè and Lián qiào clear heat and resolve toxin. Dāng guī and Hóng huā quicken the blood and dispel stasis.
