Biliary Calculus Decoction
胆道排石汤 〔膽道排石湯〕 dǎn dào pái shí tāng

Ingredients
- Jīn qián cǎo (金钱草 Lysimachiae Herba, moneywort) 30–60g
- Yīn chén (茵陈 Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, virgate wormwood) 9–12g
- Yù jīn (郁金 Curcumae Radix, curcuma [root]) 9–12g
- Zhǐ ké (qiào) (枳壳 Aurantii Fructus, bitter orange) 9–12g
- Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot) 9–12g
- Shēng dà huáng (生大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma Crudi, raw rhubarb) 9–12g
Actions: Disinhibits the gallbladder and expels stones; moves qì and relieves pain.
Indications: Gallstone attacks with gripping pain in the upper right abdomen radiating to the shoulder and back. Can also be used if there is jaundice and constipation. This formula is suitable for bile duct calculi less than 1 cm in diameter, for hepatic duct calculi, and for residual calculi left after surgery.
Method: Can also be made into pills.
Dosage: 9g morning and night for one month. If necessary, it can be taken for a second month.
Rationale: Jīn qián cǎo (which, according to botanical classification, comprises a number of different plants of the genera Glechoma, Hydrocotyle, Desmodium, and Lysimachia) is an effective agent for the treatment of calculi. Yīn chén and Yù jīn work with Jīn qián cǎo (jīn qián cǎo) to provide a strong gallbladder-disinhibiting and stone-transforming action. Mù xiāng rectifies qì and relieves pain.
