Bupleurum, Peony, Dragon Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction

Ingredients
- Chái hú (柴胡 Bupleuri Radix, bupleurum [root]) 12g
- Xiān máo (仙茅 Curculiginis Rhizoma, curculigo [root]) 24g
- Lóng gǔ (龙骨 Mastodi Ossis Fossilia, dragon bone) 24g
- Mǔ lì (牡蛎 Ostreae Concha, oyster shell) 24g
- Yù zhú (玉竹 Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, Solomon’s seal [root]) 15g
- Fú líng (茯苓 Poria , poria) 6g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 6g
Actions: Quiets the heart and spirit.
Indications: Neurasthenia, hysteria, schizophrenia, sequela of concussion, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, paroxysmal tachycardia, hyperthyroidism, menopausal syndrome, and meniere's disease (auditory vertigo).
Method: Decoct with water. Split one lot into two doses to be taken in one day.
Rationale: Chái hú courses the liver and resolves depression. Bái sháo constrains yīn and emolliates the liver. These are the sovereign agents. Lóng gǔ and Mǔ lì settle the liver and extinguish wind. Yù zhú nourishes yīn and moderates
