Rice Bean Gruel
芫萎粥 〔芫萎粥〕 yuán wéi zhōu

Ingredients
- Chì xiǎo dòu (赤小豆 Vignae Semen, rice bean) 30–50g
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 60g
- Bái shā táng (白沙糖 Saccharon Granulatum Album, white sugar)
Actions: Disinhibits urine and promotes lactation.
Indications: Water swelling (including edema from acute and chronic nephritis, ascites from cirrhosis of the liver, and leg qì (jiǎo qì) swelling); inhibited urination; breast milk stoppage.
Method: Boil the rice beans until tender, and then boil with the rice to make a gruel. Add sugar to taste just before removing from the flame.
