Ingredients:

• Dǎng shēn (党参 Codonopsis Radix, codonopsis [root]) 3g
• Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 6g
• Shēng huáng qí (生黄芪 Astragali Radix Cruda, raw astragalus [root]) 9g
• Bái zhú (白朮 Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, white atractylodes [root]) (stir-fried) 3g
• Chuān shān jiǎ (穿山甲 Manis Squama, pangolin scales) (blast-fried) 3g
• Zào jiǎo cì (皂角刺 Gleditsiae Spina, gleditsia thorn) 4.5g
• Bái zhǐ (白芷 Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Dahurian angelica) 3g
• Shēng má (升麻 Cimicifugae Rhizoma, cimicifuga [root]) 15g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 15g
• Qīng pí (青皮 Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, unripe tangerine peel) (stir-fried) 1.5g

Action: Supplements both qì and blood; expels pus and toxin.

Indication: Flat-abscess of the brain (nǎo jū) or other welling- and flat-abscesses (yōng jū) about to burst in patients suffering from insufficiency of qì and blood. Such lesions are characterized by a purple coloration, a broad diffuse base, and the absence of pus. Note that a brain flat-abscess (nǎo jū) is a flat-abscess (jū) growing on the nape of the neck. It is also called a mouth-level nape flat-abscess (jū) (duì kǒu) because of its position opposite the mouth.

Method: Decoct with water.

Notes: Internal expulsion indicates that the formula contains supplementing agents to expel toxin and preventing its inward fall.
