指迷茯苓丸 〔指迷茯苓丸〕zhǐ mí fú líng wán

Ingredients:
- Bàn xià (半夏 Pinelliae Rhizoma, pinellia [rhizome]) (processed with ginger) 12g
- Fú líng (茯苓 Poria , poria) 15g
- Zhǐ ké (qiào) (枳壳 Aurantii Fructus, bitter orange) (stir-fried with bran) 10g
- Pò xiāo (朴硝 Natrii Sulfas Non-Purus, impure mirabilite) (drenched) 6g
- Jiāng zhī (姜汁 Zingiberis Rhizomatis Succus, ginger juice)
Action: Dries dampness and moves qì; disperses stubborn phlegm.
Indication: Phlegm-rheum pouring into the limbs causing pain in one or both arms that is worse at night, lack of strength, or inability to lift or bend the arm. Tongue fur: White and slimy. Pulse: Sunken and slippery.

Method: Can be prepared as a decoction using five slices of ginger instead of the ginger juice.
Rationale: Bàn xià blast-fried with ginger juice dries dampness and transforms phlegm. It is the sovereign agent in the formula. Fú líng fortifies the spleen and percolates dampness. These agents eliminate the phlegm at source.
