Peach Blossom Decoction
桃花汤 〔桃花湯+〕táo huā tāng

Ingredients:
- Chì shí zhī (赤石脂 Halloysitum Rubrum , halloysite) 15–30g
- Gān jiāng (干姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma, dried ginger) 3–6g
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 15–30g
Action: Warms the center and astringes the intestines.
Indication: Persistent dysentery with efflux desertion with pus and pale-colored bloody stool, and abdominal pain relieved by warmth. Tongue: Pale with white fur. Pulse: Weak and slow, or fine and faint.

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Chì shí zhī astringes the intestines and stems desertion. However, if used in small quantities it does not work quickly, while if used in large quantities it makes the stomach torpid. For this reason, half the amount is decocted, while the other half is infused in the decoction. Gān jiāng not only warms the supplements spleen yáng, but also helps the Chì shí zhī to astringe the intestines. Rice is added to nourish spleen yīn, which is often damaged by enduring diarrhea. With rice, Gān jiāng invigorates the spleen with causing dryness; and with Gān jiāng, the rice enriches spleen yīn without clogging.
