Source: Dān Xī Xīn Fǎ 丹溪心法

Ingredients

Actions: Dispels wind and overcomes dampness; quickens the blood and dries dampness phlegm; clears heat and disinhibits dampness.

Indications: Wind pain patterns (white tiger joint-running wind (lì jié fēng)) with acute generalized pain, impeded flexing of the joints, a somber tongue with slimy fur, a stringlike pulse, caused by wind-damp in the joints and phlegm-heat binding in the channels.

Rationale: Bái zhǐ dispels wind-damp in the head and face. Guì zhī and Wēi líng xiān dispel wind-damp in the arm and lower leg. Qiāng huó dispels wind-damp in the joints. Ginger-processed Tiān nán xīng and Shén qū dry damp and dispel wind. Táo rén, Hóng huā, and Chuān xiōng quicken the blood and dispel stasis. Huáng bǎi, Cāng zhú, Fáng jǐ, and Lóng dǎn clear heat and disinhibit dampness. Thus, the formula as a whole dispels wind-damp from the upper body, dries dampness and quickens the blood in the middle body, and percolates dampness from the lower body.
