Ingredients
- Nán shā shēn (南沙参 Adenophorae Radix, adenophora [root]) 15g
- Běi shā shēn (北沙参 Glehniae Radix, glehnia [root]) 15g
- Tiān dōng (天冬 Asparagi Radix, asparagus [root]) 12g
- Zhī mǔ (知母 Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, anemarrhena [root]) 12g
- Xuán shēn (玄参 Scrophulariae Radix, scrophularia [root]) 12g
- Shēng dì huáng (生地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, dried/fresh rehmannia [root]) 12g
- Gǒu qǐ zǐ (枸杞子 Lycii Fructus, lycium [berry]) 12g
- Bǎi bù (百部 Stemonae Radix, stemona [root]) 9g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 6g
Actions: Clears the lung and dispels phlegm; moistens the lung and relieves cough; nourishes the liver and kidney.

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Adenophora clears the lung and dispels phlegm. Glehnia moistens the lung and engenders liquid. These two are the sovereigns. Tiān dōng and Bǎi bù, which moisten the lung and relieve cough, are the minister agents. Shēng dì huáng, Zhī mǔ, and Gǒu qǐ zǐ, which enrich the kidney and nourish the liver, are the assistants. Gān cǎo, which harmonizes all the agents of the formula, is the courier.
