Source: Qú Xiān Shén Yǐn 臞仙神隐

Ingredients

• Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 60g
• Niú rǔ (牛乳 Bovis Lac, cow’s milk)

Actions: Supplements vacuity; fortifies the stomach and spleen.

Indications: All forms of vacuity and taxation with insufficiency, insufficiency of qì and blood postpartum emaciation, weakness in old age, malnutrition and poor development in infants.

Method: Boil rice in water until half cooked. Then add milk and sugar, and continue boiling. Goat's or horse's milk can be used instead of cow's milk. For infants, human milk make be used.

Rationale: All types of milk supplement the blood and moisten dryness. Modern research shows that milk contains protein, fat, sugars, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium, vitamins A, B1, B2, C, niacin, pantothenic acid, and amino acids.
