Nose-Clearing Decoction
清鼻汤 〔清鼻湯〕 qīng bí tāng

Ingredients
- Gé gēn (葛根 Puerariae Radix, pueraria [root]) 6g
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) 1.5g
- Chì sháo (赤芍 Paeoniae Radix Rubra, red peony [root]) 3g
- Jié gěng (桔梗 Platycodonis Radix, platycodon [root]) 4.5g
- Xīn yí (辛夷 Magnoliae Flos, magnolia flower1) 4g
- Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome]) 1.5g
- Guì zhī (桂枝 Cinnamomi Ramulus, cinnamon twig) 2.5g
- Yì yǐ rén (薏苡仁 Coicis Semen, coix [seed]) 5g
- Shí gāo (石膏 Gypsum Fibrosum, gypsum) 2g
- Má huáng (麻黄 Ephedrae Herba, ephedra) 3g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 1g
- Shēng jiāng (生姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, fresh ginger) 1.5g
- Dà zǎo (大枣 Jujubae Fructus, jujube) 2g
Actions: Resolves the exterior and clears interior heat; transforms phlegm and pus.
Indications: deep-source nasal congestion due to externally contracted wind-heat and internal heat. Signs include headache and yellow, possibly purulent nasal discharge with headache and other wind-heat signs, as well as constipation and abdominal distension indicating interior heat. Tongue: Thick, slimy fur. Pulse: Forceful and floating.
Method: Decoct with water.
