Dandelion Gruel
蒲公英粥 〔蒲公英粥〕 pú gōng yīng zhōu

Ingredients
- Pú gōng yīng (蒲公英 Taraxaci Herba, dandelion) 40–60g
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 30–60g
Actions: Clears heat and resolves toxin; disperses swelling and disperses binds.
Indications: Mammary welling-abscess (yōng), throat moth, and heat toxin of clove sores. In modern clinical practice is used for acute mastitis, tonsillitis, urinary infections, infectious hepatitis, cholecystitis, upper respiratory tract infections, and acute conjunctivitis. Dandelion is sweet, slightly bitter, cold, and nontoxic. It is commonly used for mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng) and swollen sores. Modern research shows that it is effective in killing staphylococcus aureus and hemolytic streptococcus, and also fights Diplodocus pneumoniae, meningococci, Pseudomonas pyocynea, Bacillus dysenteriae, and Bacillus typhosus.
Method: Wash, cut, and boil the dandelion, and boil the rice with the resulting decoction. Fresh dandelions (with the roots left on) may also be used, but the dose should be increased to 60–90 g
