Ingredients

• Dīng xiāng (丁香 Caryophylli Flos, clove) 40g
• Ròu guì (肉桂 Cinnamomi Cortex, cinnamon bark) 20g
• Bái hú jiāo (白胡椒 Piperis Fructus Albicatus, white pepper) 40g

Actions: Warms the center and disperses cold; relieves pain and checks diarrhea.

Indications: Abdominal pain and diarrhea from catching cold.

Method: Apply topically at the navel.

Rationale: Dīng xiāng and Guì zhī form Dīng guì sǎn (丁桂散 Clove and Cinnamon Powder), which warms yáng and disperses cold, and moves qì and relieves pain. This formula, the same but for the addition of pepper, warms the center and disperses cold. It is applied topically to the umbilical region to dispel cold, relieve pain, and check diarrhea.
