Cherokee Rose Fruit Gruel
金樱子粥 〔金櫻子粥〕 jīn yīng zǐ zhōu

Ingredients
- Jīn yīng zǐ (金樱子 Rosae Laevigatae Fructus, Cherokee rose fruit) 10–15g
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 30–60g
Actions: Secures essence, reduces urine, and checks diarrhea.
Indications: Seminal efflux, seminal emission, enuresis, frequent urination, enduring spleen vacuity diarrhea, vaginal discharge, and prolapse of the uterus.
Method: Boil the rice in a strained strong decoction of the cherokee rose fruit. Glutinous rice may be used instead of nonglutinous rice.
Rationale: Jīn yīng zǐ is balanced in nature, sour and astringent in flavor, and nontoxic. It enters the kidney, bladder, and large intestine channels. It secures essence, astringes the intestines, and reduces urine. It is commonly used to treat seminal emission, enuresis, spleen vacuity diarrhea, vaginal discharge, and flooding and spotting.
