Fortifying and Securing Decoction
健固汤 〔健固湯〕 jiàn gù tāng

Ingredients
- Dǎng shēn (党参 Codonopsis Radix, codonopsis [root]) 15g
- Yì yǐ rén (薏苡仁 Coicis Semen, coix [seed]) (stir-fried) 15g
- Fú líng (茯苓 Poria , poria) 15g
- Bái zhú (白朮 Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, white atractylodes [root]) (stir-fried with earth) 20g
- Bā jǐ tiān (巴戟天 Morindae Officinalis Radix, morinda [root]) (steeped in brine) 10g
Actions: Fortifies the spleen and secures the kidney; moves and transforms water-damp.
Indications: Premenstrual diarrhea due to
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Dǎng shēn fortifies the spleen and boosts qì. Bái zhú fortifies the spleen and dries dampness. Fú líng fortifies the spleen and percolates dampness. These three agents thus combine to move the spleen and transform dampness. Yì yǐ rén disinhibits water and percolates dampness, and with Fú líng guides the water-damp out with the urine. Bā jǐ tiān warms and supplements kidney yáng, thereby regulating the menses and promoting the transformative action of bladder qì.
