Yīn and yáng restrain each other

阴阳互约 〔陰陽互約〕 yīn yáng hù yuē

Many yīn-yáng paired phenomena counterbalance each other. Heat can restrain cold; cold can restrain heat. Fire evaporates water and water douses fire. Hence it is said that yīn and yáng restrain each other.
