Vacuity fire flaming upward
虚火上炎 〔虛火上炎〕xū huǒ shàng yán
Also upflaming vacuity fire. Upper body heat signs due to kidney yīn depletion and water failing to restrain fire. Signs include dry throat, sore throat, clouded head and dizzy vision, heart vexation and insomnia, tinnitus, forgetfulness, heat in the hearts of the palms and soles, soft red tongue, and fine pulse. Some patients may also display red eyes or mouth and tongue sores. Compare stirring of the ministerial fire.
