Twirling
捻转法 〔捻轉法〕niǎn zhuǎn fǎ
A method of needle manipulation whereby the practitioner grasps the handle of the needle between his thumb and forefinger and twists the needle first one way and then the other, in an arc between 180 and 360°. Avoid turning the needle in a single direction in order to prevent the needle from adhering to fibrous tissue and causing unnecessary pain. Rotating the needle rapidly in a wide arc drains; a narrow arc with slow motion supplements; a medium arc with medium speed produces even supplementation and drainage. The rotation method can be combined with the lifting and thrusting method described above.
