Spleen opens at the mouth

脾开窍于口 〔脾開竅於口〕pí kāi qiào yú kǒu

Also spleen governs the mouth. The mouth is the outer orifice of the spleen. This phrase refers to the relationship of the splenic movement and transformation to appetite and taste in the mouth. If the stomach and the spleen are functioning normally, the individual has a good appetite and normal taste in the mouth. The Magic Pivot (灵枢 líng shū) states, Spleen qì passes through to the mouth; if the spleen is in harmony, then the mouth can taste the five flavors. Diseases of the spleen and stomach are often reflected in changes in appetite and changes in taste in the mouth (a bland or sweet taste or slimy sensation). See also stomach governs intake.
