Spleen governs the flesh and limbs

脾主肌肉、四肢 〔脾主肌肉、四肢〕 pí zhǔ jī ròu, sì zhī

The fullness of the flesh and the strength of the limbs are dependent upon the spleen’s movement and transformation function. Because the spleen is the source of blood and qì formation, all the muscles of the body rely for their nourishment on the capacity of the stomach and spleen to move and transform the essence of grain and water. Only when the stomach and spleen are functioning properly are the muscles full and sound and the limbs powerful. Impairment of spleen function may therefore lead to wasting of the flesh, loss of limb power, and, in severe cases, wilting of the flesh and paralysis.
