Spine pinching

捏脊 〔捏脊〕nēi jǐ

A tuī-ná method of spine manipulation used in the treatment of gān accumulation in infants.

Method: The manipulator places the child in prone posture in front of him. He places both index fingers on the ridge of the spine, and pinches the flesh on either side of the spine between the thumb and second joint of the middle finger of each hand. The action is performed running up the spine from GV-1 (Long Strong, 长强 cháng qiáng) to GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), alternating left and right hand pinches. This sequence is performed 3–6 times in each session. This method can also be used treat enuresis and insomnia.
