Sorrow
悲 〔悲〕bēi
One of the seven affects. Sorrow is the affect of the lung, and in excess it can damage the lung. Wailing is the voice of the lung and is associated with sorrow. Damage to the lung by sorrow is characterized by crying, heat vexation and agitation, pale-white complexion, insufficiency of spirit qì (lack of vigor), and a tight or bound pulse.
