Single-handed needle insertion

单手进针法 〔單手進針法〕dān shǒu jìn zhēn fǎ

A needle insertion technique using one hand only.

Method:

  1. The needle is held between the thumb and index finger, and the middle finger is placed next to the insertion site. The tip and lower part of the needle rest against the middle finger.
  2. The needle is thrust sharply into the body, the middle finger bending in the action.

Application: This method is used in the insertion of short filiform needles. The technique of the single-handed insertion can also be applied with the techniques of skin-spreading needle insertion, skin-pinching needle insertion, and the nail press needle insertion. See needle insertion; needle manipulation (technique).
