征候 〔徵候〕zhēng hòu
1. Mostly referred to in modern texts as 症狀 zhèng zhuàng, which is also the term used in biomedicine, corresponding to the English symptom. Any indication of illness, e.g., pain or other localized discomfort, heat effusion, poor appetite, abnormalities of stool, urine, menses, etc. In most cases, a sign is insufficient to determine the nature of the disease. A group of signs of diagnostic significance is called a pattern. See symptom.
2. Any disease sign other than the pulse. See precedence of signs over the pulse; precedence of pulse over signs.
