房劳过度 〔房勞過度〕fáng láo guò dù

Excessive sexual activity refers not only to overindulgence in sex but also to multiparity (giving birth to many children). Both may wear on kidney essence, thereby weakening the body’s health and increasing vulnerability to disease. a) In men, excessive sexual activity, especially when culminating in ejaculation, causes general signs such as limp aching lumbus and knees, dizziness, tinnitus, lassitude of spirit and lack of strength, forgetfulness, and emaciation. It also leads to sexual dysfunctions such as impotence, premature ejaculation, and seminal emission. b) In women, excessive childbirth may damage the thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels. This is characterized by menstrual irregularities, amenorrhea, and vaginal discharge.
