Sand veins
痧筋 〔痧筋〕 shā jīn
The appearance of dark green-blue, purple, or red veins above and below the knees and elbows in sand patterns. Sand veins are attributable to sand toxin. Clearly visible sand veins are a sign of the toxin in the blood aspect. Veins that are sometimes visible and sometimes not are an indication of toxin entering the qì aspect. If they are slightly visible, this is usually a sign that the toxin is obstructing the qì aspect. Sand veins can be treated by pricking with a three-edged needle to discharge the toxin.
