Qì dynamic
气机 〔氣機〕qì jī
The activity, particularly the movement, of qì. Disturbances of qì dynamic: a) When the movement of qì is mildly sluggish or obstructed, this is called inhibited qì dynamic. b) When the flow of qì is more severely obstructed, this is called qì stagnation. c) Movement of qì in an abnormal or excessive upward direction is called qì counterflow. d) Excessive downward movement of qì is called qì fall. f) Flow of qì out of the body is called qì desertion. Disturbances of qì dynamic can by caused by external causes (wind, cold, dampness) or by internal causes. Yīn evils such as cold, dampness, phlegm, and static blood cause qì to stagnate. Yáng evils such as fire and summerheat can cause qì to rise. The seven affects influence the qì dynamic in numerous different ways: joy causes qì to slacken; sorrow causes qì to disperse; thought causes qì to bind; anger causes qì to ascend; fear causes qì to descend.
