Pupil
瞳子 〔瞳子〕 tóng zǐ
瞳仁〔瞳仁〕tóng rén
The black spot in the center of the eye. Also called water wheel.
Etymology
Chinese: 瞳 tóng, composed of 目 mù, eye, with 童 tóng, child. 子 zǐ, noun suffix.
English: from Latin pupilla, girl, doll, puppet. The origin of both Chinese and English names is apparently explained by the tiny image of oneself seen reflected in another’s eye.
