Puffy swelling

浮肿 〔浮腫〕 fú zhǒng

Diffuse swelling of the flesh of the face or limbs. The term appears in Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, qì jiāo biàn dà lùn). Loosely, puffy swelling is the same as water swelling, although strictly it is a symptom name while water swelling is a disease name. Puffy swelling can take the form of vacuity or repletion, vacuity being the more common; hence the term vacuity puffiness.
