Provisioning
营 〔營〕yíng
Previously construction. An abbreviation for provisioning qì, which is an essential qì formed from the essence of food and which flows in the vessels. Provisioning is considered to be an aspect of the blood.
Etymology
营 yíng, military camp, operate, develop. The English provisioning is intended to convey the original sense of the yíng in the medical context, reflecting the analogy to national administration, in which provisioning or maintenance of infrastructures (the various parts of the body) is paired with defense. Also, the character 荣 róng, splendor, glory, luxuriance is also used to denote provisioning. See loss-of-luxuriance.
