Act(ion) according to time

因时制宜 〔因時制宜〕yīn shí zhì yí

To determine what is suitable for the patient in accordance with the time of the year. The seasons are associated with different types of weather that can all affect the human body. For example, in summer the weather is hot, the interstices loosen and open so that when treating patients suffering from wind-cold, warm acrid medicinals should not be used to excess if copious sweating and damage to yáng qì and the fluids is to be avoided. In the winter, the interstices respond to cold weather by tightening so that in treating patients with wind-cold, warm acrid medicinals must be used in larger quantities to ensure enough sweating to resolve the evil.
