Normal pulse
正常脉 〔正常脈〕zhèng cháng mài
With approximately four beats per respiration, the normal pulse is steady and even. The normal pulse has a threefold significance:
- Its smoothness and strength indicate the presence of spirit.
- It is neither sunken nor floating, and the beat rises and falls evenly and effortlessly, indicating the presence of stomach qì.
- Strength at the deep level indicates the presence of root. See stomach, spirit, and root.
