Measles in which, after disappearance of papules, contraction of wind evil causes the measles toxin to fall into the lung. The signs are high fever, cough, hasty breathing, phlegm rale, flaring nostrils, and green-blue lips.
Medicinal therapy: Diffuse the lung and outthrust the evil; clear heat and resolve toxin. Use Ephedra, Apricot Kernel, Licorice, and Gypsum Decoction (麻杏甘石汤má xìng gān shí tāng) with additions. Biomedical correspondence: measles pneumonia.
If heat is pronounced, add anemarrhena (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母zhī mǔ), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩huáng qín), isatis root (Isatidis Radix, 板蓝根bǎn lán gēn), houttuynia (Houttuyniae Herba, 鱼腥草yú xīng cǎo), lonicera (Lonicerae Flos, 金银花jīn yín huā), and forsythia (Forsythiae Fructus, 连翘lián qiào).
If cough is pronounced and phlegm copious, add trichosanthes (Trichosanthis Fructus, 栝楼guā lóu), mulberry root bark (Mori Cortex, 桑白皮sāng bái pí), lycium root bark (Lycii Cortex, 地骨皮dì gǔ pí), and platycodon (Platycodonis Radix, 桔梗jié gěng). Biomedical treatment may also be recommended.
