Lung governs the exterior of the entire body

肺主一身之表 〔肺主一身之表〕 fèi zhǔ yī shēn zhī biǎo

The exterior of the body is related to lung function. When lung qì is vacuous and the fleshy exterior is insecure there is a tendency to spontaneous sweating. When defense is weak, the fleshy exterior is vulnerable to wind-cold invasion, which can give rise to cough. See lung governs the skin and body hair.
