血为气之母 〔血為氣之母〕xuè wéi qì zhī mǔ

The nourishing action of blood is necessary for the activity of qì. The capacity of qì to enable all parts of the body to carry out their various activities is attributable to the adequate supply of nutrition from the blood. Blood is to qì as a mother is to a child. This is one aspect of the yīn-yáng relationship between qì and blood. See qì is the commander of the blood.
