Kidney stands in exterior-interior relationship with the bladder
肾与膀胱相表里 〔腎與膀胱相表裏〕 shèn yǔ páng guāng xiāng biǎo lǐ
The kidney is in the interior, whereas the bladder is in the exterior. The two are closely related. The kidney drains waste fluids from the body, and passes them to the bladder, which regulates their passage out of the body. Storage relies on the retentive power of kidney qì, whereas discharge relies on the power of the kidney to permit flow. The opening and closing
of the bladder is thus seen as a function of the kidney.
