Joint-running wind

历节风 〔歷節風〕lì jié fēng

Also white tiger joint-running wind; pain wind. A disease described in Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet (金匮要略 jīn guì yào lüè), characterized by redness of the joints, with acute pain and difficulty bending and stretching. Joint-running wind is attributed to transformation of wind-cold-damp into heat in patients suffering from liver-kidney vacuity, and falls within the scope of impediment ().

Etymology

Chinlì, pass through, go around, pervade; 节 jié, joint; 风 fēng, wind. So called because it is a condition that runs through, i.e., pervades, many joints.
