Heat tearing

热泪 〔熱淚〕rè lèi

Tearing (lacrimation) that is attributable to invasion of wind-heat, to intense liver-lung heat, to flaming yīn vacuity fire, or to foreign bodies entering the eye, and that is associated with a hot sensation. Heat tearing may be further associated with aversion to light, swelling of the eyes, and a red facial complexion. It is often observed in external obstructions of the eye. Methods of treatment include coursing wind, clearing heat, nourishing yīn, calming the liver, cooling the blood, and dispelling stasis, depending upon the cause. If a foreign body is the cause, this should be removed by washing.
