Gān of the lung

肺疳 〔肺疳〕fèi gān

One of the five gān; a pattern of damage to the lung by depressed heat usually stemming from breast-feeding problems. Gān of the lung is characterized by cough, inhibited throat, copious snivel making the child cry, abdominal distension, diarrhea with stool like rice water, reduced suckling, fishy smell in the mouth, dry skin, and emaciated limbs. In some cases, sores under the nose, vigorous heat [effusion], and abhorrence of cold are observed.

Medicinal therapy: Clear the lung and drain heat using formulas such as White-Draining Powder (泻白散 xiè bái sǎn) supplemented with other medicinals.
