Frog rale in the throat

喉中有水鸡声 〔喉中有水雞聲〕hóu zhōng yǒu shuǐ jī shēng

A continuous high-pitched rale produced by phlegm blocking the respiratory tract, so named because of its similarity to the croaking of frogs (in chorus). Frog rale in the throat is characteristic of wheezing patterns. The Orthodox Tradition of Medicine (医学正传 yī xué zhèng zhuàn) states, Hasty panting with frog rale in the throat is called wheezing.

Biomedical correspondence: Occurs in diseases classified in Western medicine as asthma and asthmatic bronchitis.
