Freeing [medicinals] can eliminate stagnation
通可去滞 〔通可去滯〕tōng kě qù zhì
Freeing and disinhibiting medicinals can eliminate various forms of stagnation. For example, rice-paper plant pith (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 通草 tōng cǎo), vaccaria (Vaccariae Semen, 王不留行 wáng bù liú xíng), and rhaponticum (Rhapontici Radix, 漏芦 lòu lú) can be used to free milk in female patients suffering from postpartum qì and blood stagnation. Clematis (Clematidis Radix, 威灵仙 wēi líng xiān) and fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, 防己 fáng jǐ) can treat damp impediment (bì) due stagnation of dampness characterized by heavy aching limbs.
