Engendering
相生 〔相生〕xiāng shēng
The sequence in which the five phases and their corresponding phenomena have a nurturing effect on each other, i.e., wood (liver) → fire (heart) → earth (spleen) → metal (lung) → water (kidney) → wood (liver). This reflects the way in which spring gives way to summer, summer gives way to long summer, etc.
