Emptiness of the sea of blood
血海空虚 〔血海空虛〕 xuè hǎi kōng xū
The sea of blood
can refer either to thoroughfare (chōng) vessel or to the liver. In emptiness of the sea of blood,
it appears to refer to the thoroughfare (chōng) vessel, which with the controlling (rèn) vessel starts in the uterus, percolates into all the yáng channels, and irrigates all the essences, and intersects with all the yīn channels, thereby helping to maintain the ability of qì and blood to nourish the whole body. Emptiness of the sea of blood is impairment of this capacity, as observed in blood desertion.
