Dry tongue fur

舌苔干燥 〔舌苔乾燥〕shé tāi gān zào

A tongue fur that lacks moisture. A dry tongue fur is usually a heat sign. A tongue that looks dry, and feels dry and rough, or even prickly to the touch, described as a rough tongue fur, is mainly seen in externally contracted febrile diseases and indicates damage to humor by exuberant heat. A slightly dry and slightly slimy tongue fur associated with thirst without desire to drink arises when center phlegm-damp obstruction prevents the fluid from reaching the upper body.
