Dry lichen

干癣 〔乾癬〕gān xiǎn

From The Origin and Indicators of Disease (诸病源候论 zhū bìng yuán hòu lùn). Lichen xiǎn that is characterized by clearly circumscribed thickening of the skin fissuring, and itching that causes scaling, and that is attributed to wind-damp settling in the skin.

Biomedical correspondence: chronic eczema; neurodermatitis.

Medicinal therapy: Apply Coptis Powder (黄连散 huáng lián sǎn), which comprises alum (白矾 bái fán) and coptis (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连 huáng lián). Alternatively, use Chinese Wolfsbane Paste (狼毒膏 láng dú gāo). A further alternative is sulfur (Sulphur, 石硫黄 shí liú huáng) ground to a powder and applied mixed with vinegar.
