Dry formula

燥剂 〔燥劑〕zào jì

One of the ten formula types. Dry [medicinals] can eliminate dampness. Formulas predominantly containing such medicinals are called dry formulas. For example, Five-Peel Beverage (五皮饮 wǔ pí yǐn), containing mulberry root bark (Mori Cortex, 桑白皮 sāng bái pí), tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 陈皮 chén pí), ginger skin (Zingiberis Rhizomatis Cortex, 姜皮 jiāng pí), areca husk (Arecae Pericarpium, 大腹皮 dà fù pí), and poria skin (Poriae Cutis, 茯苓皮 fú líng pí), is used to treat swelling of the limbs, fullness in the stomach duct and abdomen, panting, and inhibited urination. Stomach-Calming Powder (平胃散 píng wèi sǎn) is also a dry formula.
