Disease correspondences of the five colors
五色主病 〔五色主病〕 wǔ sè zhǔ bìng
The diagnostic significance of the five colors (green-blue, red, yellow, white, and black). The five colors have two sets or correspondences:
- In the doctrine of the five phases, green-blue, red, yellow, white and black facial complexions indicate disease of the liver, heart, spleen, lung, and kidney respectively.
- The five colors are also have correspondences to the nature of disease. Green-blue is associated with wind, fright, cold and pain; red is associated with heat; yellow is associated with dampness; white is associated with blood vacuity and cold; black is associated with pain, blood stasis, and taxation damage. These correspondences are rough guidelines, not immutable rules.
