Dancing of the arms and legs
手舞足蹈 〔手舞足蹈〕 shǒu wǔ zú dǎo
Uncontrollable movement of the limbs that gives the appearance of dancing or the movement of a string puppet, in severe cases accompanied by pouting of the lips, blinking, and protrusion of the tongue. It is due to externally contracted wind evil, liver-kidney yīn vacuity, dual vacuity of qì and blood, liver depression with blood vacuity, or insufficiency of kidney essence. Dancing of the arms and legs can occur in pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, as a result of dual vacuity of qì and blood.
