White liquor
白酒 〔白酒〕 bái jiǔ
Alternate English names: colorless grain liquor
Alternate Chinese names: 白干* bái gān; 白干酒 bái gān jiǔ
Kingdom: Plant
Use: Alimentary
Notes: The term bái jiǔ means either a colorless beverage made by fermenting wine (i.e., any colorless 米酒 mǐ jiǔ, rice wine) or a distilled liquor made from any of various grains (such as sorghum), also called 白干 bái gān. In the formula names such as Trichosanthes, Long-Stamen Onion, and White Liquor Decoction (瓜蒌薤白白酒汤 guā lóu xiè bái bái jiǔ tāng), it refers to colorless rice wine. Note also that, outside the realm of Chinese, the term nowadays also refers to white wine made from grapes.
